Draw, Move, or Copy the Lazy Way with Ortho
Today’s tip is a drafting shortcut that I’ve been using for a long time. It’s a tip that I think saves a lot of time.
Type ORTHO or hit F8 to turn Ortho on. With Ortho on, type the MOVE or COPY command, select objects, pick a base point, and drag any direction. While dragging in the direction you want, type a number and hit Enter. The object will move in the direction you specified, the distance you typed.

You can also use the shift key. After selecting an object to be copied or moved, and selected the basepoint, hold the shift key and your system will go into temporary ortho mode as long as you hold the shift key down. You can also use this method with pan. Just hold the shift key down as you pan, and you will pan perfectly horizontally or vertically.
